robotic pyeloplasty

after the operation

You are usually discharged home within 24hrs after robotic assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty, following catheter removal. You will be given antibiotics to take home and there are small dressings over the wound sites that should be kept dry for 48hrs. There will be some pain especially on coughing, sneezing, etc. that may last for some weeks. It is advised that heavy lifting and straining be avoided during the first 3-4 weeks. You should not drive for at least a week and should be able to perform an emergency stop when driving. Any medications that you normally take can be resumed after discharge from hospital.

Four weeks after the operation you will be invited to attend the outpatient department at which time flexible cystoscopy will be carried out to remove the J-J stent. You will be asked to have a repeat renogram at three month after the operation to ensure that the operation has been a success (i.e. free drainage of urine from the kidney with no obstruction).
