Professional Experience

Susan trained at the North East Essex School of nursing at Colchester and after qualifying with distinction, gained a wide experience of both medical and surgical nursing before specialising in Urology. She was employed by the Essex Rivers Trust as senior urology nurse for Colchester and was responsible for the development of nurse-led urology services within the community. She was then invited to join the NHS Modernisation Agency as one of 15 nationwide project managers to oversee the development of the modernisation of urology services within the North East Essex area, which included nurse led prostate assessment and cystoscopy clinics, prostate cancer biopsy clinics and the initiation of telephone follow-up services which reduced patient waiting times and non-attendance rates.

With her specific interest in sexual dysfunction, she undertook the Masters and post-graduate programme in treating sexual dysfunction at Sheffield, eventually returning there to become Senior Nurse and co-ordinator of the academic stream of the department.

She is a qualified psychotherapist, sex therapist and couple and relationship therapist and has extensive experience in the field of sexual health for both men and women. She is an Honorary Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford, Essex and has presented both nationally and internationally on many issues surrounding urology and sexual dysfunction.

Susan is currently working towards the development of specific urology services within the Mid-Essex catchment area and continues her work of treating sexual dysfunction, in particular, female sexual dysfunction and ageing sexuality. Susan is an integral part of the GreenLight laser prostate service, which runs from Springfield Hospital for both Private and NHS patients on a weekly basis.
